Agile can apply outside of the software development environment, too. My final example to the group illustrates how the City of Portland uses it to manage a sewer system!
Several years ago, my colleague Jean Richardson trained the civil engineering staff at the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services in Scrum. “Portland’s city sewer system is now managed using Scrumban. And, the BES has had several successful projects using Scrum and Scrumban in the last few years. They find that Agile allows them to deliver more quickly and have happier customers. This translates, of course, to saving taxpayer dollars.” [Personal communication]
Agile is not a panacea, but its effectiveness extends to government projects, too.
Any other government example?
